My Nightingale Speech

Most of you will know I recently spent an unplanned stay in Great Western Hospital. Despite the fact that I was quite poorly I was able to reflect on so many things. I suppose one would expect that having come back from the brink so to speak, it would give me a clearer perspective, on life. However I think in my case it just added to the confusion, frustration and at times anger that I feel about what is happening to this once great nation, how millions of people go about their daily lives seemly oblivious as to what is happening to Britain. The apparent acceptance that there is little they can do to change things. This was no where more apparent than in GWH. The conversations between staff reveal how little concern there seems to be beyond the next night out.

The public at large fail to understand that it is they who hold the key to the future of this Nation. It is they who can change the direction we are heading, it is they who can say STOP, Britain wants to get off this one way train.

Why then don’t they, do they not care, are they so satisfied with their lives that they accept anything that the Government tells them. Can they really not see that Britain as a part of a European Super State would mean the end of life as we have lived it for generations.

I frankly do not have the answer. In casual conversation we all seem to speak the same language, of frustration, anxiety, trepidation, fear for our futures, but when it comes to the ballot box, these same people revert to historical voting patterns. UKIP must change that. We must explain the full extent of the damage the EU does.
We must point out this simple fact.

That the combined direct and indirect costs of EU membership for Britain was over £114,000 a minute, in 2007 and it will rise exponentially in years ahead.

* By the end of 2007 the UK had made contributions to the EU budget of almost £213.6 billion gross or £66.3 billion net, by 2013 this figure will have increased to £299.8 billion gross, or £102.2 billion net
* Britain's accumulated trade deficit with the other EU member states since we joined has risen to £359.5 billion.
Where it has to be asked is the trading benefit we are frequently told about.
* Our 2007 membership of the European Union cost Britain £60.1 billion gross, or £50.6 billion net
* That is the equivalent for every man, women and child in Britain of over £1,000 per year gross

Gerard Batten MEP, the author of these calculations, challenged the Government in the following terms.

"If the Government believes that membership of the EU is beneficial to Britain and that we should remain a member, then let it commission an independent and impartial cost/benefit analysis so that the supposed benefits can be proved and the findings openly debated.
"If Gordon Brown thinks that the UK should be signed-up to the revived EU Constitution, then he should be open with the British people and present us with the full facts and figures relating to EU membership so that they can decide whether or not they want even more integration.”

However it is not just Labour who do not want such an analysis, neither do the Tories or the Lib-Dems. What are these parties afraid of. Could it just be the public might realise that they are funding a monolith that is out of control and year on year is getting bigger with no conceivable net benefit to Britain. Like all inert structures the EU is incapable of change, it will keep going until it is metaphorically blown up. Although there are those who feel the only way to stop it is by armed insurrection. Let us hope it never comes to that. Although events in the Caucuses are very worrying.

Robert Oulds, Director of the Bruges Group, said: "The cost per minute is an enormous sum, over the course of a year the figure is shocking. To put it into perspective just £1 billion will pay for 222,000 hip replacements, or 46,893 nurses, or 38,782 teachers, or 34,585 police officers.

What then does the future hold for the peoples of Europe and more importantly the United Kingdom, with now almost 80% of our laws and regulation coming from an unelected Commission, which the EU Parliament has little control over, the future is far from bright.

There really is no alternative other than to leave the EU at the earliest opportunity. Labour will not do that neither will the Tories or the Lib-Dems despite them claiming they would offer this style of referendum. Remember when the Labour MP for Glasgow East offered this option in the Reform Treaty Debate, the Lib-Dems abstained.

So what of the Reform Treaty. Legally now that Ireland have voted NO, it should be dead and buried, but that is not the case. The British Government has been complicit in the unlawful act of continuing ratification. Gordon Brown has no interest in the rights and wrongs of this decision anymore than most other heads of Government across the EU. But 80% of the peoples of the EU do.

It was interesting in a recent BBC discussion between Nigel Farage and a Europhile MEP, she suggested that if there were to be a referendum it should be a Europe wide poll. I was quite surprised that Nigel didn’t concur with this because there is no doubt that should such a vote take place the peoples of Europe will side with the Irish and vote NO. I firmly believe that the peoples of Europe speak as one in feeling frankly disgusted at how the Irish vote has been treated by the Political Elite of the EU.

What can UKIP do to address this fundamental issue of the race to save our country.

The thing we must do, is be ready for any eventuality. We do not know when Brown will call an election, if he wishes to SPITE his party for being disloyal he could call one as early as April next year. We must be ready for that. We must have in place a strategy to remind, the public, and David Cameron and Nick Clegg of their parties pledge on a Reform Treaty Referendum, because it is unlikely that the issue will be resolved in January, given the Irish position and Wheelers legal challenge.

None of the main parties really wants this poll but we must make sure the public knows who is to blame if it doesn’t happen. At the same time making a binding pledge to immediately hold such a poll if elected and to honour the wishes of the electorate and refuse to ratify the treaty.

UKIP have published a number of policy’s which we need to explain to the public. DOC.

If no such election is called we must then focus on the European Elections, using in my view, a similar strategy focusing on the other parties deceiving attitude to the issue of the Treaty and the consequences to Britain of it’s full implementation.

Most people here will know what those consequences are but they need re-enforcing.

By 2012/13 Britain will effectively lose it’s power of veto despite the RED LINES Brown claims we have under the treaty.

We will almost certainly have lost the pound this being explicit in the fiscal harmonisation policy of the EU.

We will have lost the right to decide our own:

Taxation Policy
Foreign Policy
Our Police will become part of Europol, and the full implications of the European Arrest Warrant will become apparent., for one young man, Andrew Symeou, it already has.
Immigration and Asylum Policy, which we know is already out of control with a proposed amnesty for half a million illegal migrants expected, things could get much worse.

Our Health Care Policy, will mean free treatment for all those in & outside the EU, at Britain’s expense.
Our Education Policy will Change( although we do lag behind the rest of Europe, that could actually be a good thing.)
Our Armed Services will become part of the European Army currently under construction. They will likely be under the command of European rather than British Commanders, the prospect of which horrifies my son as a serving Royal Navy Petty Officer.
We will be forced to abandon our alliance with NATO, and lose our seat on the UN Security Council, in favour of this European Army. This will put a tremendous strain on our relationship with the US.

In short we will lose the right to Self Govern.

Our MP’s will be reduced to simple administrators of European laws and rules, and look after the regions of The European Super State, already defined within the Le Manche map. MP’s will not care as they will be part of the gravy train and receive enhanced benefits from the EU. Make no mistake our politicians will be impotent in this new Europe Order. Britain in effect will no longer exist as an independent Natio
So what can we do?

Let us not be under any illusions we have a mammoth task. It will be all uphill, it will be tiring and soul destroying. We will all at times ask, WHAT’S THE POINT.

It’s at times like this we must remember our relatives in decades gone by who have made the paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we currently enjoy. These freedoms are not ours to give away, they are not Government property to surrender. They are the, history. the heritage and the future of our children and their children.

If we fail in our resolve then we fail those future generations, we sacrifice their freedoms, their democracy, their Sovereignty.

It is said that the British are at their most dangerous when we face adversity, we face such adversity now and in the coming months and years. We must fight for what we believe in, a United Kingdom free from tyranny and foreign control, free from laws and rules not of our making, being part of Europe but not controlled by it. We must be free to trade with all the countries of the world without hindrance or constraint.

We must welcome those who face persecution but exclude those who wish to change our culture, usurp our laws, who refuse to integrate in our society, or who have nothing to offer Britain. We must take a lead from the Australians, who make no apologises for saying ‘It is our country’. We must celebrate diversity but not be hostage to it. We must above all else be a fair and just Nation, caring for all, but most of all caring for our citizens above all others.

UKIP are about all these values but above all , we are the United Kingdom Independence Party, we are the party that is proud of our Nation, proud of our history, proud of our record of standing up against oppression, whoever the oppressor, and above all else proud to be British. UKIP MUST win the fight to stay a free and independent nation, to countenance failure, would be to seal the fate of Britain. We simply must not fail.

Thank You.

plus, as was also said, the EU is a single party state, whose leaders are self elected, unaccountable and are not removable through the ballot box. (The parliament, with no real power, is just a pretence at democracy)

The conversations between staff reveal how little concern there seems to be beyond the next night out.

That seems to be the ploy of the Elite; make the EU seem so dull and complicated that the electorate will just give in and allow Monnet's 1920/30's plan, for a supranational European government, to come to fruition.

Hi Beckie, sorry for delay in responding, I know Emma as we do the Swindon Business Show on 105.5 every Monday at 6pm. Thanks for the link.

Alfred of course you are right in all you say.

Willbert will have a look and if appropriate put a link up.

willbert, having looked at the site, I am sorry I and UKIP could not support such an organisation. UKIP is about leaving the EU, no reforms would satisfy what we believe to view of the British people that we should leave to regain the controls we have lost.

Wilbert, Sadly I agree with BobFM.

Others have tried, over many years, to bring about some of the reforms that you highlight. The following are totally unacceptable to the EU Elite, as it is solidly set upon a path of greater integration. The only way to make Europe work, the Elite feel, is to be in control of every tiny aspect of it. If history has taught us anything it should be that the EU is beyond reform. Our government, now no more than a puppet government, seems completely blind to the lessons of history. Sadly, the Conservative party seems equally blind in this respect as well.

These, from your Constitution, will be totally unacceptable to the EU. The only path open to us if we wish to remain a free society, is to leave.

Free Europe means for European states:
6. Every government and national parliament has the right to self-determination of taxes, subsidies and laws.
7. No taxation power for the EU.
8. Decisions in the EU should be made by agreements between governments. Delegation of national legislative power to EU institutions is possible; withdrawal of such powers, both in specific cases and generally is equally possible.
9. Sending tax-payer’s money from one part of Europe to another is a matter solely for the states or regions involved.
