"The award of a knighthood to Graham Watson, the sponsor of the European Arrest Warrant, serves to underline all that is wrong with the honours system, in respect of establishment politics".

Dear Editor,

I refer to Des Morgans letter ( Adver 19/5)( click on title link) and would whole heartily concur with the basic thrust and principles behind it. However I would take issue with him as to why some feel at times aggrieved by letters or articles. Sometimes it is because the frequency some have letters appear, and the apparent bias of some articles. If the local political parties are to have articles authored by their members then that right should apply to all local parties. It should not be just a case of those in 'power'. The state of the political landscape will never change if the views of the smaller parties are only ever seen by the public at election time, because the media have to.

One has only to go back a couple of weeks to remember the scathing attacks on the political penmanship following the election. Many, many posters openly accused Adam Kula of blatant Labour bias. I remained neutral on this at a public level, although I did email Adam, questioning why after interviewing me on the night my views weren't featured. Sadly I did not receive a reply.

I note my letter thanking the voters and my members certainly has not appeared on line.

Des is right to champion freedom of speech, in a political context that freedom of speech should be fairly administered, regardless of the personal political views of the Editorial Team.

Less than 24 hours to go before the polls open. Despite criticism of UKIP's campaign locally by armchair politicians we are creating a good impression. We may not bombard you with leaflets, we may not knock on your door every five minutes whilst you're having your dinner or watching your favourite programme, but we have been listening and looking the problems for Shaw and Nine Elms are obvious to those who wish to see. I have highlighted the failings of Garry Perkins as a ward Councillor because he is the Deputy Leader of the ruling group and as such commands great power. However we have seen what he does with that power and contempt in which he treats the people of Swindon and his ward.

We know that many areas share similar problems and dilemmas, we understand that it is impossible for local politics to in reality be ward specific. UKIP's actions in power would be to listen and act for all, not just the wards that shout the loudest or have the most councillors in the ruling group. In short we would deliver for the whole of Swindon, FAIRLY.

Vote UKIP tomorrow, and vote YES to AV for a fairer future and a better politics, a politics for all not just the LibLabCon.

4. Wasted millions on failed projects like Wifi Mesh where Councillor Perkins has personal involvement, as a Director of Digital City.

5. Deputy Leader Perkins has presided over a Council who have borrowed over £60 million in the last two years. That is £1000 per household in Swindon. They have lost section 106 Money.

They have done all this whilst cutting back on public services. Sacking essential staff, whilst the number of admin staff earning above £50k per year has grown.

I am pleased to inform the residents of Shaw and Nine Elms that I am now officially the candidate for my party in the ward. I have spent time just wandering around the ward and talking to people and it seems to be that there is a recurring theme of rubbish and graffiti which Swindon Council appear to ignore, this is clearly a source of great frustration and one could say anger amongst residents.

This is made all the more so by having as a ward Councillor the Deputy Leader of the ruling group. I have heard he rarely answers emails or replies to other forms of communication and has only ever visited the ward during election periods. He also claimed when he was first elected that he would relocate to the ward. This he has failed to do.

I will make no such claim, as I am required due to the nature of my business to live at the Carpenters Arms. What I will promise to do however is hold regular surgeries across the ward, and report the concerns of the residents to the Council.This is the basic minimum performance residents have a right to expect from their Councillors which clearly is not being delivered in Shaw and Nine Elms.

I am sure the voters are aware of Councillor Perkin's involvement with what is now known as the Wifi Mesh Soap Opera, as a Director of Digital City. This waste of valuable tax payers money, is simply just one example of the 'criminal' waste by this Council, and no sitting party can escape blame.

I am told by the political 'elite' that one should not seek to engage in collective blame, well I am one of those simple individuals who believe that a ruling Council cannot continue to waste tax payers money, mislead the voter, or be self serving without the acquiesce of all those present when decisions are taken. If a Councillor really does believe issues of malfeasance or criminality have occurred then not only do they have a legal obligation to take action but they have a moral obligation.

As Chairman of UKIP Swindon I can promise you that if any of my local group becomes a Councillor they will follow the basic 'Tenet' of honesty, integrity and openness, a principle enshrined in the core believe of the United Kingdom Independence Party.

AV or Not AV

Whilst it is my personal view that it should be no, we at UKIP are a democratic party so all views count; Letter to the Advertiser.

Dear Sir,
Writing in your paper yesterday (Feb. 25th) Justin Tomlinson MP said that "AV is not the way to improve the voting system" and went on to explain that the Alternative Vote would let minor parties "like the BNP" get elected. I wonder just why Mr Tomlinson mentioned the British National Party rather than the, in the views of many, more publicly acceptable "minor parties" such as the Green or UK Independence Party (UKIP)? It is my opinion that he mentioned the BNP simply because he calculated that this would stir up the average voter to support his suggestion that AV is the wrong way to go.
Proportional Representation, of which the Alternative Vote is one kind, means simply that all votes cast, regardless of party, will matter as it will no longer be a "two horse race" for the post of MP. If it be the will of the people that a Conservative or Labour representative be elected to serve then that is what will still happen but it also means that parties which are nearer to the opinions of the people in what they stand for will have an equal (or at least better) chance of being voted in. It is a truth that the "main parties" have long since ceased to represent the majority views in Britain and Governments are frequently elected with far fewer than half the votes cast. Something has to be done and while I do not claim that AV is perfect it is a much fairer way than "First past the post" in a nation where there are several national parties standing these days, not just the two of decades ago. I would respectfully remind Mr Tomlinson that UKIP, Green and BNP only came into being because the "main parties" failed to seriously consider public opinion on matters such as Europe, the environment or immigration; to complain that they might get elected is surely to hold an undemocratic view of politics?
Although unqualified to write in detail about the Greens or BNP I would like to mention too that UKIP might have begun as a "single issue" party but today it's manifesto actually covers all aspects of Government and that in past elections, held under Proportional Representation, the Party came second beating Labour and the Liberal - Democrats into third and fourth places respectively. Perhaps this is the real reason that Mr Tomlinson wrote against adopting AV in British politics; it would mean the end of the cosy Labour/ Conservative sinecure in which neither party has to work too hard or fully honour its pre election pledges because they know that under the current system they will be elected anyway. Under AV they will be totally accountable to the British electorate and we will be better placed to ensure that they do what they say they will. And just what is wrong with that?

The annual general meeting took place last night (14/2/11). There was a good turnout of members. The meeting was opened by out going Chairman Peter Thompson-Watt, who after the usual housekeeping matters introduced Jim Carver the new South West Regional Organiser, who outlined his vision of the South West and his ideas for future elections.

There then followed the election of the new Chairman, there were two candidates nominated, Terence Hayward and former Chairman Bob Feal-Martinez. Both were invited to speak for 5 minutes. A secret ballot was then held during which Bob Feal-Martinez received 77% of the votes counted by Jim Carver and Brian Slade, the newly elected Wiltshire County Chairman.

The two other main committee posts were elected unopposed, they were Ed Gerrard, Secretary, and Nick Reffold, Treasurer. The new Chairman thanked those present for their faith in re-electing him following his resignation on health grounds 19 months earlier. He pledged to work with the Election Planning Sub-Committee to give the voters of Swindon a real choice to alter the politics of Swindon.

Brian Slade then addressed the meeting on his vision for the County and inter branch cooperation.

The next scheduled Members meeting will be on March 14th again at the South Marston Hotel, at 7pm, when all members and non members are welcome to attend.

A New Year a New Election

So we have had eight months of a Coalition Government and all we have to show for it is growing unemployment, a further erosion of our rights, a cut in services with more to come, and a complete abandonment of principle by the LibDems and the Conservatives with Labour returning to the dark old days of Union control.

It is time for Britain to wake up and vote for the only party able and willing to put Britain and the British first. Your first chance in Swindon will be this coming May.

How can we put our trust in any of the current batch of Councillors when we see how they have wasted our money, WiFi, the endless planning matters that have gone wrong, the owners of Locarno threatening now to sue for a £1million of our money. This list sadly is endless, meanwhile they cut back on services. UKIP may not be able to control Swindon Borough Council but what we can do is to make our presence felt. We will tell the voters what goes on in the Council Chamber and make democracy mean something.

A New Year a New Election

As we enter 2011 we face more elections in May. This time for a number of local wards. We also face a referendum on a change in National Voting. What will this mean for the people of Swindon.?

At a National level a change to AV will be precisely nothing, it will ensure the same parties get elected. Long winded explanations are not necessary the facts are clear. Most preference votes will not alter the winning candidate.

As for the local elections the 3 main parties have shown they are all the same, and what we have seen more importantly in the Lib Dems is that being in Government is more important than principle and manifesto commitments. I am sure there is not a person in Swindon and Wiltshire who isn't aware of the impending closure of RAF Lyneham. However how many people are aware that just 25 miles away in Gloucestershire, and at a cost of £35 million, 600 Eastern European troops have this year been installed as part of the European Rapid Response Unit at RAF Innsworth.

What makes this deployment all the more ridiculous when our own troops in Germany are due to return home in the not to distant future, is that Innsworth does not even have a runway as it is supposed to be an administrative and training facility. So how rapid is rapid.

Perhaps these foreign troops will be deployed to keep order in the UK, if as seems likely there is a growing demand to exit the European Union.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn't always fair;
- and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;

It is with deep regret that following the disruptive actions of both Steve Halden and Robin Tingey, neither of whom now speak for the branch, we have been regrettably forced to cancel the meeting at the South Marsdon Hotel on 12th April and there will no longer be a formal branch launch of either the local nor General Election campaign in Swindon. Any such launch is not sanctioned by Swindon UKIP.

Regrettably, since some still have not got the message, I need to repeat that our ELECTED head of Media Relations in Swindon Branch is Robert Feal Martinez and he will remain such until either he chooses to resign that post or is voted off at the next AGM.

Again, I apologise for the cancellation of the meeting which has been brought about by very disruptive elements within the branch.

Swindon Select New PPC

The United Kingdom Independence Party held their Annual General meeting last night at the South Marston Hotel and Leisure Club.

The Chairman, Greg Heathcliffe was re-elected, following an unsuccessful challenge by Stephen Halden, UKIP's North Swindon PPC. The treasurer and secretary were elected unopposed and five other committee members adopted.

The party is also pleased to announce the selection of Robin Tingey as the new PPC for South Swindon. Robin has been a UKIP member since 2001 and has held a number of branch committee posts. He is the branches local webmaster.

He has lived in Swindon for fourteen years, and works for Motorola in Swindon. Robin has strong family values and is a committed practising Christian. He has previously stood for election both as PPC and as a Council Candidate. He has also acted as a candidate agent.

Commenting on his selection he said, 'I am very pleased to be standing for UKIP again. Britain needs to rid itself of the EU and use the money for this country. If elected I will serve the people of South Swindon to the best of my ability.'

The European Parliament will next month vote on the agreement — and could scupper data-sharing, if the legislators oppose a temporary deal that EU governments want in place for nine months while they negotiate a fuller and longer-term accord with the U.S.

Such a deal would formalize a secret program launched in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks that skirted Europe's strict privacy rules. It did that by transferring millions of pieces of personal information from the U.S. offices of the bank transfer company SWIFT to American authorities.

As lawmakers in France openly recommend a ban on full veils, people in Britain believe that garments that cover the face should also be outlawed in the United Kingdom, a new Angus Reid Public Opinion poll has found.

The online survey of a representative national sample of 2,001 British adults showed respondents pictures of three different garments—the burqa, the niqab and the hijab—and asked whether their use should be forbidden in the UK under three specific scenarios.

Burqa

The burqa is an outer garment worn by some Muslim women that is meant to conceal the entire body. In addition to a full veil, the burqa usually features a net that covers the eyes.

More than 70 per cent of respondents would agree with banning the burqa in public places (72%), at schools and universities (79%) and at airports.

Niqab

The niqab is also meant to conceal the entire body and also features a full veil, but differs from the burqa because the eyes are usually exposed.

Two thirds of Britons (66%) would ban the niqab in public places, while higher proportions would forbid the use of the garment at schools and universities (75%) and airports (85%).

Hijab

The hijab is a type of head scarf that usually exposes the entire face. A majority of respondents believe the hijab should not be banned at airports (63%), schools and universities (69%) or in public places (75%).

Mixed Signals

While two thirds of Britons (67%) believe that garments that conceal a woman’s face are an affront to British values, a majority of respondents (58%) claim the Government should not be allowed to tell individuals what they can and cannot wear.

It would appear not for the first the public are at odds with themselves, and whilst the prejudice amongst society may well see the 70% as vindication of a ban policy clearly, when push comes to shove the public don't like bans.

Dear Mr Cameron,

I note you have written to Sky News supporting a TV debate at the next General Election campaign. I would to welcome such a debate, but is it not a little remiss of you not to have included the current second most popular UK political party based on the EU election results. I speak of course of the United Kingdom Independence Party.

Given that 80% of the population want a referendum on Lisbon, and 60% want out of the EU altogether surely in the interests of British democracy you should ask that Nigel Farage be invited to take part.

Failure to do may perhaps indicate to voters the shallowness over the promise on a referendum, or could it just be that the thought of being 'shown up' by a closet racist and fruitcake would not be good for your image.

Conservative MEP keeps causing problems for David Cameron.

Few would accuse Daniel Hannan, journalist and occasional Conservative MEP, of being a team player. Hannan was one of those credited with bouncing David Cameron into a promise to take Conservative MEPs out of the centre-right EPP-ED group. Cameron did so and the Conservatives formed the European Conservatives and Reformists in June, but there are already problems. There have been allegations that Michal Kaminski, the Polish MEP and group leader, is a rogue anti-Semite. Then it emerged that Kaminski backs the Lisbon treaty and the Common Agricultural Policy.

To make matters worse, Hannan went to the US and blundered into the healthcare reform debate by denouncing the UK's National Health Service – thus blowing apart Cameron's strategy to portray his party as a supporter of the NHS. Cameron has described Hannan as “eccentric”. No more than the average MEP, surely, though it does suggest that he might be in danger of becoming a marginalised member of a marginalised group.

The Hypocrisy of Ryanair's Michael O'Leary: A letter to the Irish Times

Dear Editor,

I am slightly mystified as to the stance that Ryanair is taking over the appalling abuse of process that expects the Irish people to vote again, after their resounding no vote to the Reform Treaty, as reported in the Irish Times.

Outside observers could be forgiven for believing that this is more to do with Ryanair's business expectations than a concern for the Irish people. The stance is even more odd given Mr O'Leary's comments in The Post IE on 19th October 2008, when he said :

‘‘It seems that only in the European Union, Ireland and Zimbabwe you are forced to vote twice,” O’Leary said on a visit to Brussels last week. ‘‘The vote should be respected. It is the only democratic thing to do.”

He went on to say, ‘‘I am fundamentally anti the mismanagement and corruption in Brussels. I hate the bureaucracy."

So what has he been promised to invest 1/2 million Euro of Ryanair money in campaigning for a yes vote. Has he asked his shareholders. The obscene amount of tax payers money, both Irish and other EU states money to promote a Yes vote needs to stopped. The Irish Government are effectively censoring the No camp, putting pressure on the media not to allocate a fair coverage, in pursuit of what the EU and Irish Governments call a democratic vote.

I sincerely hope that our Irish frineds have the courage to vote no again. The promises you have been made are worthless. Nothing has changed Ireland will progressively lose more influence as the EU expands, of that there can be no doubt.

The Irish people have the chance that 450 million people have not had, and that is to say a resounding NO. I doubt of course that this letter will be published but one can only try.

EU blunder over monkey advert

UKIP MEP Mike Nattrass has today called on the EU Commission to cease using animals in its future advertising after producing an anti smoking ad which features a tethered macaque monkey.

The West Midlands MEP, who has been involved in animal protection for many years including being the first to sign the anti bullfighting ‘Bull’ in the European Parliament, has slapped down a challenge to the Commission to stop using animals in its adverts.

Mr Nattrass, who is also against the use of primates in animal experiments, has spoken out against a commercial for the European Commission’s new anti-smoking campaign HELP which features a macaque monkey on a lead.

The monkey is seen sitting on a women’s shoulder tearing up a packet of cigarettes.

But, Mr Nattrass believes the commercial, which has already been pulled from the English and Irish language websites of the HELP campaign, is a disgrace.

“I think the advert is absolutely appalling and I am now calling on the European Commission to do the right thing and ban the use of animals in its future commercials,” Mr Nattrass said.

“I cannot understand why the Commission decided to use an animal in an anti-smoking campaign. It is clearly yet another blunder by the European Commission and it demonstrates yet again why Britain should leave the EU.”

The Captive Animals' Protection Society (CAPS) has also expressed concerns over the advert.

Craig Redmond, Campaigns Director for CAPS, said: “Use of primates in this way damages not only the welfare of the individual animals but also has a negative impact on conservation messages designed to protect animals.

“Many leading primate experts, including Dr Jane Goddall and Ian Redmond (Chief Consultant to the UN Great Ape Survival Project) have spoken out against the use of primates in commercials.

“The International Primatological Society also opposes the use of non-human primates as ‘performers’.”

EU says Somali pirates release German ship

(AP) – 16 hours ago

BERLIN — A European Union naval spokesman says Somali pirates have released a German vessel after a ransom was paid.

British Royal Navy Cmdr John Harbour says the ship, which had been held nearly four months, was released after the ransom was paid around lunchtime.

He said by telephone Monday evening: "The Hansa Stavanger was released within the last two hours by the pirates who left the ship."

"She put to sea on her own steam and she is continuing out to sea under the protection of European naval force units."

He was reached at the headquarters of the EU's anti-piracy mission in Northwood, near London.

He says EU forces had not yet boarded the vessel but that "the positive news is we have not heard of any casualties."

He had no further details.

The death of WWI Henry Allingham at the age of 113 is the true end of an era, says UKIP Leader Nigel Farage.

Officially the world's oldest man at the time of his death, Henry was a veteran of the Battle of Jutland and the last of the founders of the RAF,

"Henry was a truly wonderful character," Mr Farage said.

"With his passing we really have come to the end of an era. Through my abiding interest in military history, I had the good fortune to meet him on a number of occasions and was always struck by his vitality and sense of humour.

"My thoughts go now to all his family."

UKIP has called for a public inquiry into Gordon Brown's veto of vital equipment in the UK's fight against the Taliban in Afghanistan.

UKIP Deputy Leader and Head of Policy, David Campbell Bannerman MEP, who will take up his seat on the Security and Defence Committee of the European Parliament this week, has called for a public inquiry into the Treasury’s role in vetoing vital equipment while Gordon Brown was Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Mr Campbell Bannerman said: “When UKIP launched its defence paper last April we were well aware then of severe helicopter shortages from front line feedback.

"We understand that every time a politician or visitor goes to Afghanistan, there are so few helicopters that troops are left behind in danger zones.

“Why has this come as news to the Government now? It is an absolute disgrace that lives have been put at risk by penny-pinching ministers and bureaucrats who know no sense of shame or responsibility.

“If Treasury short-term thinking has cost brave British lives, then those responsible must go. And if that means Gordon Brown himself going, so be it. We demand a public inquiry to get to the bottom of this shameful episode and to examine what senior military personnel have been saying.

“Only UKIP seems to care about the armed forces, with a commitment to raise defence spending by 40%, to increase the regular army by one quarter, double the Territorial Army, and increase helicopters and aircraft for the Royal Navy and RAF.”

In an astonishing admission Charlie McCreevy finally admits what we all knew. Few citizens of the EU want the Lisbon Treaty.

McCreevy admits 95% of EU states would have voted No to Lisbon Treaty. EU Internal Markets Commissioner Charlie McCreevy has admitted that 95% of EU states would have voted No if they held a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. He said: "When Irish people rejected the Lisbon Treaty a year ago, the initial reaction ranged from shock to horror to temper to vexation. That would be the view of a lot of the people who live in the Brussels beltway. On the other hand, all of the [political leaders] know quite well that if the similar question was put to their electorate by a referendum the answer in 95 per cent of the countries would probably have been No as well."

He also appeared to suggest that he still has not read the Lisbon Treaty. Asked if he had read it since admitting during the last campaign that he had not, he replied, "I am going to stay up every night during every day of the summer reading chapters. I will put questions to every journalist I meet asking them what different subsections mean. A lot of that is political nonsense."

So there we have it once again the political elite know the vast majority of EU citizens are against the proposed increases in power the Lisbon Treaty will give the EU but they will still plug away trying to get it ratified.

This is bad enough but we now hear that the Irish Government is to spend a huge amount of money in promoting a yes vote.

'Irish government to spend €220,000 on postcards plugging Lisbon Treaty. Irish Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin has said that he plans to send out postcards costing €220,000 to every household in Ireland, detailing the so-called 'guarantees' secured at the European summit. The Irish government has also set up several websites to campaign in favour of a Yes vote in the next referendum to "explain what the EU has done for Ireland." There are also reports that politicians from around Europe will this time around "have no qualms" about interfering in the debate, with new European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek saying he will visit Ireland.'

So the Irish are going to have the full weight of the EU on their backs once again. Lets hope they vote NO again, they must remember they are not alone. Poland and the Czech Republic have not yet signed off the treaty, and the German Constitutional Court have instructed that Germany strengthen their domestic laws against certain elements of the treaty, before it is signed off.

Tory Members should vote UKIP

It seems that David Cameron is faced with a dilemma his own party members were asked whether there should be a new Referendum process on the Lisbon Treaty even if it was ratified prior to an elected Tory Government.

The results make stark reading for Mr Cameron 60% said yes, and 24% went further saying the ratification by Brown should be declared illegitimate. So a staggering 84% of Cameron's own party members want a referendum come what may.

Well Tory voters if that is your wish then there is simply only one party to vote for. That party is UKIP.

EID a threat to sheep farming, says Agnew

Newly-elected MEP Stuart Agnew has hit out at the EU over new rules on electronic identification for sheep.

A Norfolk farmer, Mr Agnew, who was elected to the European Parliament in this month’s European Election has wasted no time in speaking up for the interests of sheep farmers, in Britain, who are under serious threat from the European Union’s new rules on EID (Electronic Identification).

His intervention came after Scotland’s Rural Affairs Secretary, Richard Lochhead’s lobbying effort on behalf of Scottish farmers.

Mr Agnew said: “Whilst I welcome the initiative on behalf of farmers in Scotland, the fact is that these nightmarish regulations seriously threaten the whole sheep farming sector, because they add considerable costs, where margins are already low.

"Costs of £3 per head are being talked about, which is huge, when you consider that the average size of sheep flocks is around 5-600 animals. The sheer hard labour involved in carrying it out is also mind-boggling.

“The National Sheep Association has been campaigning against this bureaucratic nightmare for years, pointing out that the rationale behind it is fundamentally flawed as there is no clear indication that EID would offer any additional protection against the spread of disease, over and above existing measures.

“EID is also a very serious problem from an animal welfare point of view. It means that sheep will have to be double tagged. Under present rules, they already have a small identity tag in one ear, but Brussels now wants them to have another, larger tag in the other ear.

"They are painful and pose an increased risk of infection, particularly when animals are tagged in warm weather. They are also likely to catch on everything and pull off and they are expensive to replace.

“These are the kinds of rules that people who spend all day in offices generate. Only in the cloud cuckoo land of Brussels could such nonsense have been dreamed up.

"Unfortunately, until Britain regains its independence, begging Brussels for a derogation from the rules, is our only option.

"However, it should be done for the whole of the UK, otherwise we are going to get in a monumental muddle as sheep are sent from Scotland in huge numbers to be sold in England and also many farms straddle the border.”

New Poll Puts UKIP at 10% for a General Election

In a new Interactive Poll by Harris for the Metro News UKIP have 10% of those intending to vote. What is interesting is that as well as the usual 55+ age group on 10%, the 35+ age group also was 10%, a clear indicator that UKIP are now starting to appeal to the wealth creating age group.

Contract this 10% with the 7% we were various on 6 months before the EU's and we can see that support is not only holding but growing.

Reform Bill for EU withdrawal

Monday, 15th June 2009

UKIP peer Lord Willoughby has introduced a Constitutional Reform Bill which details how Britain would withdraw from the EU and the measures needed to do so.

Alongside EU withdrawal, the Bill:

* Repeals the Human Rights Act. (Clause 2)

* Sets up binding national and local referendums. (Clauses 11 and 16)

* Passes power from Westminster to local government. (Clauses 12 - 15)

* Reviews Regional Assemblies and all quangos, etc., with a view to closure. (Clause 18)

* Reduces the House of Commons to 250 MPs with transparent expenses. To sit for fixed five-year terms. (Clauses 5-8)
* House of Lords reformed or abolished by national referendum. (Clause 9) and;
* Retains National powers. (Clause 10)

Combined No to Europe Vote just 0.5% Behind Tories

The Tory claim to be the comfortable winners of the European Elections does not stand up to examination. If all the Eurosceptic votes had come to UKIP the results would have been remarkably different.

'Bearing in mind that the governing party polled 2,381,760 votes, just 15.7% of the total votes cast; then factor in the 'anti-EU' votes which comprise UKIP, BNP, English Democrats, Socialist Labour Party, NO2EU and UK First, which together polled 4,121,983 votes, 27.2%, the Labour Party can hardly be said to have a mandate when deciding a major aspect of this country's policy on membership of the European Union.

More importantly, the Conservative Party - which has the stated aim of maintaining said membership - which polled 4,198,394 votes, 27.7% of the total votes cast, may well state that they polled the majority of votes but then can hardly consider that as a mandate, being just 0.5% greater. This is, it is believed, justifiably a 'false' majority when it must be accepted that not all those who would have voted in a referendum, on an in/out question, had voted. This point, when factored into the equation, leaves the Conservative Party in the same position as the Labour Party - ie, without a mandate.

This is a great result for UKIP and in Swindon we can be rightly proud of increasing our vote by 4%. The Lib-Dems have been shown once again to have failed to impact on Labour. UKIP are now rightly the 2nd Party in Swindon by a country mile. Perhaps the local media will now finally give us credit for that.

Election-Communication (June 2009)

Following our exchange of messages, earlier this year, I take the liberty of sending you some information about an important, political event.

This Thursday (4th June) brings the five-yearly elections to the EU's consultative assembly. This assembly refers to itself as "The European Parliament", although it is neither European, in any comprehensive sense, nor a parliament, as this term is generally understood.

The EU has spent billions of euros, of taxpayers' money, on conditioning electorates to regard the assembly as democratically elected and as the source of the vast amounts of EU-legislation, which are making national parliaments redundant; but this assembly is not the source of that legislation, nor is it democratically elected.

EU-legislation is generated solely by the bureaucrats and appointees of the EU-Commission and authoritatively adopted solely by the bureaucrats and appointees of the EU-Council. Such legislation is then adopted automatically by EU-governments.

The principal, valuable function of the assembly is derived from the fact that legislation, proposed to it by the Commission, thereby enters the public domain, and thus cannot be kept secret; but the pro-EU mass-media are very careful to report this disclosure only insofar as it does not seriously discredit the EU or the political parties, which support it.

The assembly can reject Commission-proposals, but, in the last session, it rejected only two such proposals, out of eight thousand, so this is not a significant power either.

In addition, the assembly can issue "written declarations", "resolutions" and "own-initiative-reports", the authors of which use them to advertise themselves, the assembly and the EU, as responsible and democratic; but these instruments have no legislative force and function purely as EU-propaganda.

In short, the assembly functions as a propaganda-agency, and as camouflage, for a highly dangerous, and entirely autocratic, system-of-government, which - through its constitutional Lisbon-Treaty - is on the verge of becoming a sovereign state.

Each national delegation, to the assembly, is democratically elected, but the assembly, as a whole, is not. This is because the EU's dozens of electorates - each isolated linguistically, within its own media-circus, from all of the others - cannot engage together in general debate, nor exert common scrutiny of the assembly's proceedings.

This means that the pro-EU parties, and mass-media, in each of these isolated electorates, can tell voters only what they want them to hear. Consequently, while preaching democracy, transparency and "togetherness", the EU rules by diktat, obfuscation and division; and the assembly is a mere pawn in this great game.

Nevertheless, as I said at first, Thursday's elections are important, because they allow the UK Independence Party - which is the only unequivocal critic and opponent of the EU - to state its view of the EU in a context, in which its view cannot be wholly ignored by the mass-media, as has always been the case in elections to (the real) Parliament.

Moreover, given a sufficient triumph, in these elections, UKIP's view will have to be considered, by the mass-media, for the first time, in the coming General Election. It will then not be possible, any longer, for Westminster's incumbent parties to pretend that their manifestos are either substantially different from one another, or capable of expressing the will of a sovereign electorate.

It will be clear to all, at last, that it is the incumbents, who represent "one-issue-parties" - dedicated to obeying the EU, whatever it does - and that only UKIP has a full range of policies, dedicated to serving the national interest.

It is at Westminster, in Parliament, alone, that the power exists to implement these policies, and then, only after the repeal of the European Communities Act of 1972 (ECA) from which the EU derives all its authority, in Britain.

The declarations of intent, so beloved by the Conservative Party, to "prevent further loss of sovereignty", "to repatriate powers to Parliament" or "to re-negotiate the terms of Britain's EU-accession treaty", are so much hypocrisy and deception - insubstantial prevarications to avoid the repeal of the ECA - and will be revealed as such at the General Election; but only if UKIP polls well enough on Thursday.

Constitutional Reform: UKIP Ahead of the Game

Whilst the three main parties argue about what the reforms should be and the time scale etc. UKIP Peers have taken the lead. Needless to say the main media seems to have missed this. I wonder why.

UKIP introduced a Constitutional Reform Bill into the House of Lords this afternoon. Lord Willoughby de Broke ensured the First Reading of the bill at 3.07 pm this Tuesday afternoon, 2 June.

The bill's preamble:

TO

Repeal the European Communities Act 1972 and the Human Rights Act 1998; introduce binding referendum powers at national and local level; require the approval of Parliament to enter into international treaties and to declare war; make provision about the work of Parliament; devolve legislative responsibility for certain policy areas to local authorities; and for connected purposes.

The opening clauses:

1 Withdrawal from the European Union

(1) The European Communites Act 1972 (c. 68) is repealed.
(2) Courts in the United Kingdom shall no longer have judicial notice of decisions of the Court of Justice of the European Communities or the Court of First Instance.
2 Human rights

The Human Rights Act 1998 (c. 42) is repealed.
There is, as everyone knows at the moment, a huge hunger for change in the system. UKIP are introducing this bill so as to provide those very changes needed. Procedure in the House of Lords means that this bill will indeed enter the legislative system and will progress. It is very much more than an EDM or 10 minute bill in the Commons.

Bravery or Stupidity: Farage V Paxman

What other party political leader would have the courage to go head to head with Jeremy Paxman on News Night the evening before two major election votes. There will be those who would advise that it could be political suicide. There are of course others like me who believe that this could be final boost we need to oust the Tories from many council seats and EU seats also.

In the South West polls are already predicting UKIP will be the number one party in the EU's, lets hope that translates into the County Elections which are as or more important for the British.

Good luck Nigel, however it goes your courage will be seen for just that. It's on at 10.35pm on BBC 2.

The Google Insight tool which monitors internet traffic has been monitoring political parties and has produced their latest statistics showing UKIP are way ahead of the other parties in terms of interest. The good news is that the BNP have flat-lined at the bottom of the pile.

David Cameron Really is Afraid of Discussing Europe

What would you think the leader of the Conservatives would do if voters in his own constituency in Witney wanted him to debate the Tories position on the EU. Read this from Witney UKIP.

In view of the confusing and sometimes contradictory attitude by the Conservative Party to the UK’s membership of the European Union, on 10th June 2008 David Cameron was invited by the Witney branch of the UK Independence Party to publicly debate this matter. Mentioned in that letter was the fact that, at the last European elections, 19 per cent of his constituency voted for the UK Independence Party an indication surely, of the degree of concern felt by his constituents about the UK’s membership of the EU.

In his reply, dated 18th June, David Cameron stated that his views on the European Union were well known. In fact, he has rarely, if ever, spoken at any length on this subject. In a further letter to him, dated 10th September, we pointed out that he had failed to address any of the points we raised and we repeated our offer of a public debate, on a neutral platform and with a neutral chairman, followed by yet another letter on 9th February this year in a last attempt to have him debate with us. As we said, only by a full and frank exchange of views would voters in his constituency and the rest of the country be able to understand his reasons for stating in his letter of 18th June “I believe it would be wrong for Britain to leave the EU.”

David Phipps, Chairman of UKIP Witney Constituency Association said:

“I am deeply disappointed in Mr. Cameron’s unwillingness to discuss this important issue. Unfortunately he has shown that the attitude of the Conservatives is no different to that of the other two main parties, namely to deny any discussion on what is a drastic change to our way of life and our ability to decide our own laws. In this time of deep financial crisis, the fact that our membership of the European Union is costing us £40 million a day is also a matter of real concern to many people. Mr. Cameron is showing contempt for his constituents whose views he is supposed to represent.

As Nigel Farage said, in conversation with Andrew Neil on Straight Talk, David Cameron does not wish to have this discussion, yet it is obvious that a great many of his party would like to have that conversation. Unlike Mr. Cameron, we in UKIP genuinely believe in the democratic process and are prepared to debate our views with any party.”
